Deliberate shellings and bombings by the russian military laid waste to numerous museums, churches, theatres, libraries, and other institutions.
Some of them hold invaluable facilities such as ancient monuments, sculptures, world-class paintings, and rare books, among other things.
There are 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ukraine, while another 17 properties are in the Tentative List of the World Cultural Heritage. Aside from them, there are thousands of cultural institutions and monuments of immense historical value. All of them are at risk. The objects of cultural value that bombings fail to destroy are massively pillaged by Russian troops and moved to Russia, which is not dissimilar to what Wehrmacht soldiers did during the Second World War. Some of the art objects stolen back then are still unaccounted for.
Save Ukrainian Culture seeks to prevent this cruel part of history from repeating itself.

The funds will be spent on the restoration of demolished or destroyed sites after the war is over. This effort is led by Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
“The world stood speechless watching ISIS barbarians destroy the legendary city of Palmyra, one of the ancient world's wonders. What is happening now is that another mass of barbarians is demolishing a place of rich culture and history. Don’t let the tragedy of Palmyra happen over and over again. Cryptocurrency is a provenly efficient tool of financing that would allow us to salvage our cultural heritage from pillaging and demolition in the face of this senseless war,” says Sergey Vasylchuk, CEO of Everstake.
“Currently Ukrainian culture has suffered significant destruction. We are talking about at least 200 sights across the country, which were damaged or destroyed by invaders. Unfortunately, this is not the end because the Russian military continues the barbaric destruction. So, we must act immediately to restore everything that was damaged by the war. And the Save Ukrainian Culture fundraiser is designed to speed up this process,” says Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
"WWII had countless instances of Wehrmacht soldiers raiding museums and other cultural institutions. Luftwaffe mercilessly bombed cities in Europe without much care about the cultural value of what they were destroying. Those days, some items were unaccounted for. This is a crime against the world of culture and anyone who values cultural assets, and it’s happening again. We must learn the lessons from the past and salvage whatever we can" says Sergey Vasylchuk.
