In 2004, IBM sold its x86-based server business to Lenovo Group for $1.75 billion. The deal included the System x, BladeCenter, and Flex System blade servers and switches, as well as the associated software, customer contracts, and employees. IBM's move to sell its computing division was part of its broader strategy to focus on higher-margin businesses such as cloud computing and analytics. The deal also helped Lenovo expand its market share in the server market and strengthen its position as a global technology leader. IBM retained its higher-end server business, including its Power Systems and System z mainframes.
On December 8, 1980, musician and former member of The Beatles, John Lennon, was fatally shot outside his apartment building, the Dakota, in New York City. The perpetrator, Mark David Chapman, fired multiple shots at Lennon, hitting him four times in the back. Lennon was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, shocking the world and leaving a lasting impact on music and popular culture.
Mary, Queen of Scots, was born on December 8, 1542, at Linlithgow Palace in Scotland. She became queen of Scotland just six days after her birth when her father, King James V, died. Mary's life was marked by political intrigue, marriages, and her eventual execution in 1587 after being implicated in plots to assassinate her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England.
