The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Was Established

Officially known as CBC/Radio-Canada, the network is Canada's public radio and television broadcaster and operates four terrestrial radio networks: The English-language CBC Radio One and CBC Music, and the French-language Ici Radio-Canada PremiĆØre and Ici Musique.
The BBC Television Services Was Started

The British Broadcasting Corporation initiates the BBC Television Service, the world's first regular, "high-definition" (then defined as at least 200 lines) service. Renamed BBC1 in 1964, the channel still runs to this day.
New Zealand Adopted a National Standard Time

Dr James Hector, head of the Geological Survey persuaded the New Zealand government of the advisability of adopting a nationwide standard time, or New Zealand Mean Time (NZMT). He proposed a time 11 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
