The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was founded

The New York Stock Exchange traces its origins to the Buttonwood Agreement signed by 24 stockbrokers on May 17, 1792, as a response to the first financial panic in the young nation. It set rules for how stocks could be traded and established set commissions. The Agreement aimed to promote public confidence in the markets and to ensure that deals were conducted between trusted parties.

The U.S. Supreme Court declared racially segregated public schools unconstitutional

Brown v. Board of Education was one of the cornerstones of the civil rights movement, and helped establish the precedent that “separate-but-equal” education and other services were not, in fact, equal at all. As a result, the justices ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional.
