My name is Omer, I am the CTO and Co-Founder of Swimm, a devtool that helps developers and their teams manage knowledge about their codebase with up-to-date internal documentation. I live in Tel Aviv, Israel, with my wife and 1-year-old son. I love teaching, and created the Brief YouTube Channel, where I post tutorials mostly about Git and Computer Networks.

Interesting! What was your latest Hackernoon Top story about?

Rewriting Git history with confidence.

Do you usually write on similar topics? If not, what do you usually write about?

I write a lot about Git (I LOVE Git), but I also write about Computer Networks, and engineering leadership topics (such as providing effective feedback for engineers).

Great! What is your usual writing routine like (if you have one?)

I try to follow a few simple rules:

1. Write a little bit every day.
2. Teach before you write. If I don’t get to actually teach the material to someone, I usually create a presentation for myself.
3. When you write, only write. Don’t edit, don’t fuss about grammar, just write. Editing will come later. I write in Markdown format.
4. Edit slowly.

Being a writer in tech can be a challenge. It’s not often our main role, but an addition to another one. What is the biggest challenge you have when it comes to writing?

Fitting it into the schedule with all other things. My "trick” here is to write a little every day. Even just 20 words is a lot more than 0.

What is the next thing you hope to achieve in your career?

Get Swimm to as many developers as possible, so its impact is huge 🙏🏻🤞🏻

Wow, that’s admirable. Now, something more casual: What is your guilty pleasure of choice?

Touring coffee shops.

Do you have a non-tech-related hobby? If yes, what is it?

Most notably:

1. Nerding out about coffee (like, playing with pressure and flow control).
2. Baking without using flour.
3. Creating content, mostly videos for my YouTube channel.

What can the Hacker Noon community expect to read from you next?

In-depth Git related tutorials. But if you’d like me to create content about other things, I am open for suggestions 😇

What’s your opinion on HackerNoon as a platform for writers?

It’s awesome, accepting and versatile. I think good writers can use HackerNoon to find an audience for their hard work, and the audience can find high quality content. That’s a Win-Win 💪🏻
