How to Make Money Scraping the News in 2024

It is not a secret for anybody that the Internet holds loads of valuable information. However, due to the vast sea that the Internet represents, it is often really hard to find what we need exactly. I remember not long time ago, I tried finding some specific information on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. There were just loads and loads of websites. I was totally lost and couldn’t know which websites to trust.

I am not the only one who had this problem right? That is when I decided to code my own news scraper. And on top of everything else, I made some bucks with it. In this article, I will not cover step by step my process, rather I will give you some ideas and point you in the right direction. That way, you could apply your own twist and not saturate the methods.

So, here we go…

I will briefly explain the topic of web scraping. Basically, you code some pieces of software, that when chained together, will bring you the information YOU search about, only from the resources that YOU specify, and it will yield the results in a format YOU decide (be it a database or some other form of storage). Pretty customizable right? Not like going by hand to each site…

The program I am presenting to you in this article is able to fetch data at the incredible speed of 1k articles per minute, from up to 1000+ different sources. You can imagine that no human would ever do that. But enough bragging from my side. Let us look at how my software can earn you some sweet bucks.

1. Market Research

Let us imagine that you are the leading marketing specialist who just got hired by this new company. You have to familiarize yourself with loads of new stuff, including but not limited to: customer sentiment, market sentiment, data analysis, public relations of the company, and maybe even keyword tracking if you do not have a dedicated SEO specialist. And the list only goes on…

Luckily, with my scraper, you will have an easier time sorting all the necessary info you need.

The scraper honestly opens a whole new world for you! You can track everything in real-time, analyze the market share of your competitors, and based on the results, come up with your own marketing strategy. You can analyze the media sentiment towards your company/product and react accordingly to the changes that might appear. This is how competitive advantages are formed.

2. Sell Food for AI

A news scraper can be a valuable tool for building AI training datasets, providing a rich source of structured data that can be used to train various machine learning models. How cool does it sound right?

Please, do not think that it is just a plug-and-play printing machine. After all, you have to clean and structure the data properly for it to have value. If the dataset that underlies the model is terrible, the model itself will be terrible.

You would be really able to structure and customize everything as you want. Scraping comments and other types of public reactions can result in a huge amount of money. Who doesn’t hate fake news? Well, guess what… Only their authors love them. So, here is the deal - many large news agencies, websites or anti-fake news organizations are looking for such valuable info (on how to defeat them). So yeah, this might be your way of getting rich.

As I said… This will not be a spoon-fed guide, but rather, a way for me to promote my product and give you creative ideas. I am sure you can find many more money-making schemes with this.
