Too Long; Didn't Read

My goal for tonight was to find an ETH-based PFP to use as an identity for the ETH ecosystem related governance decisions in all DAOs and ecosystems on the Ethereum POS chain.

Yesterday I joined the Ethereum Foundation Merge Party and participated in a historic event. I was inspired seeing and hearing the stories of some of the people who are part of this decentralised effort to make the WEB 3 space safer and better.

The world is changing - has already changed - the way we make decisions on a global level is open to a lot of interesting possibilities. I want to be involved, I want to be a force for good and follow the example of these amazing community members. The space is in its infancy and all of us here have a responsibility and a sway in how this all turns out. I want to get more involved in the community and have a voice. I want to build a reputation around my identity and so my goal for tonight was to find an ETH PFP.

Method

Of course you can see the result of my search already but these are the steps I took.

STEP 1 - Before I started I wrote this paragraph describing my reasons

The Ethereum merge proves that there is a new decentralized force having a major impact on the outcome of the world economy. The dedication of the people who made this happen is inspiring and makes me want to be an even bigger part of the community that advocates for fair money.

With this in mind I want to choose an ETH-based PFP to use as an identity for Ethereum ecosystem related governance decisions in all DAOs and ecosystems on the Ethereum POS chain with this wallet strfsh.eth.

This NFT will be my main identity in this ecosystem and I hope to build a history of trust and respect so that the NFT can be proof of a track-record of upholding values and trying my best to think critically and carefully about what is best for the good of humanity. I want to en devour to be a participant in the new way decisions are being made about our world that influences it for the good of everyone.

STEP 2 - Goals

  • I am willing to spend up to 1 ETH
  • I want a project with a clear purpose
  • I don’t want a project that has gained too much power and influence over the space.
  • I want something I connect with on some level and that feels right
  • I don’t want to spend too much time researching
  • I want to be able to add meaning to this NFT

STEP 3 - Article as starting point

I found this article by Langston Thomas written just 2 days ago. It seems like a fair overview and presents some interesting options. I will use this because I don’t want to spend too much time investigating.

STEP 5 - Read the summary and go to website of each collection with floor < 1 ETH

I really resonated with Goblintown and mfers attitude of zero utility. It is clear what you are buying, a simple PFP. There is not much information on the mfers website but they do say “feel free to use mfrs any way you want”. This resonates with my idea of what an NFT PFP should be. The Goblintown website has a cool artistic vibe and I can definitely relate to the grumpy goblin feeling of the NFT space right now but it doesn’t seem to support Metamask.

Psychedelics Anonymous and Sup Ducks had an array of various benefits you will get as a member. This doesn’t appeal to me because I am looking for a PFP not a membership to a club. It was also just overly complicated for my taste. Deadfellaz also had complicated seeming benefits and utility that I’m not sure I would want or utilise.

Creature World really intrigued me but would need more investigation.

STEP 6 - Look at the collection

I looked at the NFTs in these collections available for under 1 ETH and with the goal considerations and the utitlity and descriptions of the collections fresh in my mind I chose based on which one resonated with me. There was a clear winner I was drawn to, it even looks like me. I talked to my husband about the options and it was decided. As I started the purchase I saw creator royalties was 5% which I consider reasonable. Here is the transaction: mfer #3637 for 0.825 ETH. As the transaction went through I felt a shiver of excitement - this could be the start of something.
