There are far too many people sharing their opinions about gaming on the internet but not all of them are for us. On the contrary, in this thread, we talk about some of the gaming YouTubers who we enjoy the most.

Is there one gaming personality (like someone on Youtube or a writer) who has heavily influenced the way you view the industry?

I tend to think back to TotalBiscuit and the way he basically made standards for PC ports by yelling at options menus for over twenty minutes on some of his videos and the way he evaluated games in general.

There are YouTubers I enjoy and heavily respect such as Jim Sterling, Angry Joe, Yong Yea and some others. But they don't really heavily influence how I view the industry. My views on the industry generally come from myself. I appreciate the work they do and I enjoy watching their content, it's mostly from that perspective.

I've noticed that quite a few gaming communities tend to respect Youtube-based gaming people more than any writers, as you and I have demonstrated. Perhaps it speaks to YouTubers being able to attract people with their personalities better than a writer can.

Someone who influenced within the industry is Alanah Pearce. She’s been a writer, host, voice actor and much more. I didn’t think it would be possible to wear that many hats and be successful, but she manages to pull it off.

I didn't know who Alanah Pearce is until last year but I've found her commentary to be really insightful about how game coverage works among people really established in the industry. The content that she makes is also of really good quality and, like you, I can't figure out how she can do so many things

I agree; Alanah Pearce is awesome. I've always been a big fan of Greg Miller. He started off as a journalist, then started his own company. His ability to create great content and his positive mindset inspired me.

Of course, personality comes out more in a video than in writing. You can do it, but you gotta write well for it to show.

I don't think there are any people on Youtube that have changed the way I view the industry. But one Youtube video in particular greatly changed my respect for Bethesda in regards to how mindblowing Morrowind was. I always knew the game was amazing, I poured countless hours into it. I was addicted to it. But the way this video explains it is perfect:

You'll notice he has 87k subs and this video has over 1million views!

If I were ever to get into Youtube, I'd like to create videos like this that describe a game and it's good points so well that it makes you want to go back to it even a decade later

Jack Boreham I just looked up Greg Miller's recent videos and you're right in that he's really positive. It's a great change from the usual angry coverage most people tend to give games

Limarc Ambalina, those kinds of videos are some of my favourite things to watch simply because they can cover so much ground and retain viewer attention by using visual and voiceover.
